Her book and subsequent award-winning film, KANAVAL, were published and screened in 2021/2022. Leah Gordon will explain her ideological journey from revolutionary socialism to pre-agricultural gather hunters…via her visual observations on peasant communities present and past including the exhibitions and films, ‘Monument to the Vanquished Peasant’, ‘A Pig’s Tale’, ‘Kanaval’ and her ongoing project, ‘The Perfume Harvesters’. Gordon will explore why, for her, ‘histories from below’ and carnival, folk traditions and grassroots religions all perform and sustain these radical histories and enquiries.
